This Blog is Being Renamed
The new name is...
Some things are hard to do and some things are very hard to do, but the hardest and most annoying things are those things which seem easy but are actually very, very hard to do.
Picking a name for a website is one of those annoying things which seems oh so simple. Okay, if I were looking for a site name for a company called "Mom's Apple Pies" then it's simple (as a side note, www.momsapplepies.com is currently available -- new band name anyone?) For a website like this it is not so simple. The name can't be too long or clunky. It should be memorable and catchy which is actually amazingly hard to do because it also has to be a name which nobody else has bothered to register yet. Oh, and it can't be too generic and can't be too similar to any other names out there.
Boy, did I screw up. "Brooklyn Goof" seemed like a brilliant idea at first, back when I was planning to write more comedy. For a photo site? Not so good. Sounds too much like a rip-off of BrooklynVegan (or BrooklynRock, or whoever else is called Brooklyn Something). Then there is the fact that nobody can remember the word "Goof". I keep having this exact conversation:
"My photos are on my website: Brooklyn Goof dot com."
"Brooklyn what?"
"Brooklyn Goof."
"Brooklyn Goo?"
"No, 'Goof'. G - O - O - F."
"Okay, now I got it."
(five minutes later)
"Hey, what was your website called again? Brooklyn something?"
Although brooklynwhat.com, brooklyngoo.com and brooklynsomething.com are all currently available (and all appear to have more mindshare than the original site name) I decided to pass on all of them.
Instead, from now on my little blog will be known as "Here for the Bands". It will be accessible at hereforthebands.com as well as the old address, brooklyngoof.com. I think that the new name is catchy, easy to remember, and easy to pronounce. Most importantly, it's relevant. I do not go to shows to drink, to hang out, or to "be seen". I want to enjoy the music, dance, and of course take some photos. It's all about the music and the people making that music.
Here for the Bands, as in "I'm here for the bands"
