Crocodiles at Mercury Lounge
Crocodiles are one of those bands who only rock sometimes. One of the problems with these lo-fi, Jesus and Mary Chain-inspired bands is that they want to get contemplative every now and then. Did they actually toss an instrumental into their set? Luckily, during the 75% of the time when they are rocking out they're a blast.

Fitz and the Tantrums at Mercury Lounge
Doncha' love a sharp dressed band? Though they've not quite sharp enough to avoid the con-man look (the words "That's him officer" do seem strangely fitting). But hey, if you're going to be in a Soul group I guess it is best to look like a class act. Lead singer Fitz has moves which are as sharp as his getup, the band is as tight as anything I've heard recently, and the music itself is A-stounding. I bought the album.

The Giraffes at Mercury Lounge
The show was pitching Sailor Jerry rum, but the audience was pitching PBR. They had pretty good aim too. I have never, ever seen such a soggy singer. I think he was even too slippery to crowd-surf (he tried!)
