I don't think that I have even been beaten more severely at a show (though that Templars show late last year was close). The photos speak for themselves. This was anarchy.

The Black Lips at The Shank

Those four guys squashed into the back of the small stage at The Shank are a band called "The Black Lips". They used to do more shows like this. I'm guessing that at this point they forgot how much of a pain in the ass shows like this are. Yes there are dozens of people on the stage. Yes there is a guy holding up the mics. Welcome back to New York!

The Templars at Public Assembly

This photoset features many pictures of the audience. They were the real story of this show. See, the Templars sounded good but were hardly exciting to watch. They had no stage presence at all really. But... this audience wasn't really paying attention to things like "stage presence". They were more interested in crushing one another (and me!)

Stalkers at Lulu's

Nothing like a free show to bring people together. Free pizza (with purchase) didn't hurt either. But the main draw was the calibre of the music, which is to say that Stalkers kicked ass and inspired the audience to kick each other's ass. Can anything be more American than that? Happy 4th of July, folks.

Tunnel Of Love at The Delancey

Noone who has seen them perform can deny that Tunnel Of Love are loud, aggressive, in-your-face, and all that. Somehow they just do it a little differently than most. They lack self-consciousness. Their provocation seems unintentional, achieved with as little effort as most of us walk down the street. There is a decadence to them which repels some people. The rest revel in it.
