Nicole Atkins and The Black Sea at City Winery
Having only a passing familiarity with Nicole Atkins's music I was expecting something... quieter? Only when she performed a self-described "old" song, or a solo, was as poetic and soulful as I was expecting. The rest was surprisingly close to being a rock concert. Funny, most musicians do the opposite: they mellow out over the years. At this rate in ten years she'll be singing death metal.
The Sweet Divines (and guests) at Rockwood Music Hall (Stage 2)
The stage at the Rockwood Music Hall was not made for this many people so the audience missed out on some of The Sweet Divines' usual choreography. The music on the other hand was catchy and playful, at times a bit sappy, but often charming. Guest vocalist Nicole Atkins was electrifying, and while guest singer (and possibly dancer?) Tami Lynn started a bit slow, her last few songs were worth the wait.
