The Black Hollies at Maxwell's
While being entertained by a fine performance by The Black Hollies I also found myself amused by the lighting. Each member of the band was a different color, each color matching a flavor of Kool-Aid. There was Grape Hollie, Orange Hollie and Cherry Hollie. Lime Hollie had some cherry color (maybe someone forgot to wash the pitcher?) and sure enough if you put 'em all together you get Black.
Nobunny at The Knitting Factory
I knew this show would be good but WOW. There is no question that Nobunny is one of the most energetic and exciting performers around. There are however these other questions: How did two different people manage to lose one shoe each? Did they walk home afterwards? Perhaps they split a cab? Also, who is that woman? Is she a local? If so... hey Nobunny, she lives in NYC! So when did you say you were coming back again Nobunny?
Jacuzzi Boys at The Knitting Factory
You knew a band named Jacuzzi Boys would be from somewhere sunny (Florida, as it happens). I wonder if they are ever asked what a "jacuzzi" is by their Brooklyn fans? Especially fans of their sort of garage pop. Not really a "jacuzzi" sort of audience if you know what I mean.
